ENCOURAGEMENT: Becky shares a number of quotes from Nouwen’s book on Leadership, In the Name of Jesus, suggesting how leaders must be more open and liberal in giving encouragement (rather than criticism) to others!
ADVOCACY: Nouwen was not only a professor to students for 20 years, but he served as a care-taker to the disabled later in his ministry. His famous servant-leadership stories are both humorous and humble—a wonderful balance for any leader to aspire! Any parent, pastor, professor, or professional will surely be stretched to lead by his suggestions.
DEVOTION: The habit of daily prayer, for Henri Nouwen, was a non-negotiable trait of a leader. In his book, The Way of the Heart, he brought the practical aspects of prayer into the spiritual discipline. Becky is confident that his prayer quotes will change your prayer life—as they hers when she first read them!

The Weekly LEAD - Week 6

This week, Becky will challenge you to LEAD in your sphere of influence!
 
As always, she begins with the “L” in LEAD—which stands for Loyalty to God’s Word. Humorously, she asks, “Are you a BLT Christian?” It’s her way of asking, are you TOO busy or TOO lazy or TOO tired to be a leader? She give the best of quotes from her 100-year old classic favorites, Charles Spurgeon and Oswald Chambers to fire you up. This week in the Change Your Life Daily Bible, you’ll be reading the 10 Commandments! How amazing to think that 4/10 commandments are instruction on how to love God and 6/10 are instruction on how to love others. What might happen if…?
 
The “E” in LEAD is not just a good idea—to be encouraging to others—it is a strategic way to change every room you enter! Becky shares how she learned from William Wilberforce, through his 1797 book, Real Christianity, how to persevere with a vibrant, genuine faith in a difficult time and culture.
 
The “A” in LEAD is a reminder that anyone at anytime can be an Advocate for the young generation. Becky shares one of her inspiring “airplane” stories to motivate you.
 
Finally, the “D” in LEAD is a call to be personally devoted to prayer. Becky shares the story of her decision to pray one hour a day 38 years ago. One prayer, one idea created an ongoing ministry…

The Weekly LEAD - Week 5

Winning coaches always inspire!
This week on The WEEKLY LEAD Podcast, Becky asks the question, “What might God do if…” ALL leaders would respond to the words of Super Bowl winning coaches like John Madden? She takes the LEAD template--to be Loyal to God's Word, Encouraging to each other, Advocates for the Young Generation, and Devoted to prayer--through Madden's 3-part challenge: 
1. Be on time (for your appointment with God)
2. Pay attention (to what God is asking you to do--the small prompts), and
3. Play hard when you asked to play hard (and pray hard when asked to pray hard)!
Becky believes the time is NOW to be a leader who is willing to read the Bible daily, change the atmosphere in room by the words you use (or don't use: such as "disappoint"), advocate for the young generation by being a "pen pal", and pray with incredible purpose and power!
This week, The WEEKLY LEAD, gives you the Madden mantra, the story of Henrietta Mears (game-changing founder of the original Fellowship of the Burning Hearts), and a VERY practical idea for both encouraging and advocating for the young generation. It simply takes time and intention!

The Weekly LEAD - Week 4

Being a LEADER is a game-changer! This week, Becky extends the challenge to be:
Loyal to God's Word -- Becky shares her story of making a decision at an event in 1984--yes, 1984--to pray and read the Bible for one hour a day for the rest of her life! Not only does she review the compelling story of Joseph (from this week's reading in the Change Your Life Daily Bible), but share how an 8th grader in her church has read through the Bible twice in two years. "No excuse" leadership, right?
Encouraging to others -- Becky tells one of her classic stories of how a 100-year old story impacted the life of someone this week! The point? When you are prompted to do or say something to someone, even if you feel shy, do it! Encouragement changes lives. Encouragement is serious business!
Advocate for the Young Generation -- Becky is celebrating her 45th anniversary of sobriety and has a really creative example of how you can be an advocate for someone in your life!
Devoted to prayer -- Becky closes with an Oswald Chambers quote, meant to draw you to a decision. Will you consider spending "an hour of power" every day with God in the Word and prayer?

The Weekly LEAD - Week 3

This week, Becky continues to develop the four tenets of Leadership through the L.E.A.D. lens:
Loyal to God's Word: Believing that the foundation of all leadership is based on the Word of God, she takes listeners and viewers through this week's readings in the Change Your Life Daily Bible--focusing on Jacob in the Old Testament (Genesis 35:1-3) and and the teaching of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew on the 4 types of seeds...with the most productive seed multiplying 100x's! Her look at the Psalms as written prayers, and this week's Proverbs as providing wise advise for every age leader is in her opinion, "must read" material.
Encouragement to Others: Becky loves a great sports story and this week she highlights the story of the first Down Syndrome adult to become an Ironman, illustrating the MOUNTAIN-MOVING POWER of encouragement by parents, coaches and friends toward those in their sphere of influence.
Advocacy for the Young Generation: This week's focus is on Dr. Matthew Sleeth's book, Hope Always, as it gives everyone a BIG "takeaway" for everyone who encounters someone struggling with thoughts of despair and hopelessness.
Devotion to Prayer: As always, Becky talks about her discovery of prayer in 1984, committing to ONE HOUR A DAY for the rest of her life, as a "game-changer" in every area of her life! She closes with a famous, unforgettable (worth remembering) quote by Andrew Murray.

Advocacy for the young generation has always been a part of Becky's work. This week, she shares an finding from her  Summative Research paper at Denver Seminary, in which Suicide attempts can be traced to ONE habit that similarly causes substance abuse!
